Pew Poll: Public Sees a More Troubled America in 2050

The Pew pollsters recently released a new survey about Americans’ dismal view of the nation in three decades: Looking to the Future, Public Sees America in Decline on Many Fronts (full paper in pdf).

Of particular interest here is the public’s increased awareness of the automation revolution while Washington remains on snooze mode about the issue.

Walmart Gives Robots a Bigger Role in Stores

In November of 2017 it was reported that Walmart was trying out floor-scrubber robots in a few of its stores. That testing must have gone well because now the machines are part of a company decision to use technology “to help keep costs in check.”

Walmart’s robot floor cleaner scrubs and polishes all by itself with […]

Fed-Ex Introduces Delivery Robot

We’ve seen small autonomous shipping vehicles for a couple years now, like the Starship company’s model which has been tested in cities like Austin and Washington DC.

So the new model from Fed-Ex is interesting in that it represents a tech advance by surmounting one modest step in the video below, but nothing more challenging than […]

Artificial Intelligence Will Revolutionize Society within 30 Years Says CEO

In Washington these days, even the supposed defender of sovereignty, President Trump, now admits he thinks increased immigration is needed to fill job slots.

Meanwhile, in Silicon Valley and similar tech outposts, experts see automation and artificial intelligence creating a future where fewer human workers are needed to produce more products and services. Assuming they are […]

Las Vegas: MGM Mulls Replacing Humans with Robots

In 2018, Las Vegas casino workers organized a strike, and the threatened machine takeover of jobs was a major issue: a Guardian headline from June 2 declared, ‘Robots can’t beat us’: Las Vegas casino workers prep for strike over automation. A deal was struck with MGM, but now the casino sounds like it will renege.

Perhaps […]

Tucker Carlson Interviews Andrew Yang, Technology and Automation Critic

Andrew Yang is a technology expert who is running for president in 2020 on what might be called a Tech-Caution platform. Unlike the clueless characters currently running our national government, Yang understands the danger of automation and artificial intelligence — that when smart machines take over major employment categories in America, the economy will fail […]

Americans Didn’t Vote in 2016 for Record High Immigration, Mr. Trump

Tucker Carlson’s Friday show took a deep dive on some issues that the mainstream press ignores, including immigration. First off, he noted that years of excessive immigration have resulted in “the percentage of immigrants in this country is at its highest level in a hundred years. . . 14 percent.” True enough.

Patriotic Americans did not […]

Strawberry Picker Could Replace Human Workers Next Year

Monday’s Washington Post noted the continuing improvement of agricultural automation with a front page story about a machine that can handle the requirements of delicate strawberry picking:

It’s impossible to see what’s going on inside the big machine since the working parts aren’t visible, so here’s an explanatory video from the company Harvest CROO Robotics from […]

Andrew Yang Sells His Automation-Informed Presidential Campaign with Universal Basic Income

A recent survey of Democrats vying for the 2020 Presidential nomination runs over a couple dozen, some of whom are familiar mugs from the Congress plus others who are semi-identifiable mayors, business people and failed office seekers.

As a result, the lesser known candidates need to make a splash so people will remember them.

Today’s example is […]

President Trump Signs Artificial Intelligence Initiative

A major worry in these parts has been the lack of automation awareness in the Trump administration. The last statement I can recall was in 2017 when Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin remarked, “It’s not even on our radar screen. . . 50-100 more years.” The tech world exploded at that ignorance, reported here: Treasury Secretary […]

Silicon Valley Paper Provides Two Views of the Automated Future

Sunday’s San Jose Mercury-News had a big spread on automation with photos and two articles. One is of the Don’t-Worry style — Robot-made coffee and burgers in SF? How automation is affecting jobs — produced by the SJM and appropriate to the tech-friendly view of the Silicon Valley town.

Below, a front page photo asks the […]

Robot Reporter Threatens Scribbler Jobs

It’s hard to feel sorry for journalists losing their employment because of automation since so many of them have never been sympathetic to the job loss of American workers caused by inexpensive immigrants. But now smart machines are moving into news offices and are already cranking out articles that are heavy on numbers, like finance […]
